Paavai Polytechnic College

•  Ramya, daughter of Mr.Mani and Mrs. Chinnaponnu is a hardworking student, doing her Diploma in Computer science at the Pavai Varam Polytechnic college, Salem.
•  Mr. Mani was a washerman, but he had to quit his job due to a recent surgery. His wife is a daily wage labourer and the total family income sums to Rs.5000 per month.
•  Ramya joined the Polytechnic after completing 12th std. With the small family income, she has been struggling to pay her yearly tuition fees of Rs.35,395. She was denied bank loan too.
•  Monisha, a friend of our member, Nithya approached eLIGHT to help with the payment of Ramya’s fees. The situation was critical as Ramya had a deadline to pay the fees before the start of her semester exams. Monisha and another friend Solomon had managed to contribute Rs.13,000.
•  After a thorough background verification, we felt Ramya deserved our help and eLIGHT contributed the remaining sum of Rs.12,400.

Ramya & her father were very thankful for the immense timely help & the student has promised to do well in her studies & career. She has given her semester exams currently & is awaiting results.

We wish Ramya all the best for her future!

Kuppusamy

Government Higher Secondary School, Omalur

•  Kuppusamy is studying 11th std in the Govt. Hr. Sec School, Omalur. Kuppusamy has no father, and his mom Mrs.Nallammal is a daily wage labourer. His uncle Mr.Govindaraj, also a daily wage labourer supports their family.
•  With the small monthy family income of Rs.4500, Kuppusamy educational expenses has become a financial burden to the family.
•  Apart from his schooling, Kuppusamy works in a local bakery in the weekends, to support his familys financial needs.
•  Mrs. Vijaya Pugalenthi, the headmistress of the school and mother of eLIGHT member, Premkumar provided us with the necessary details and helped us with the background verification.
•  eLIGHT paid Kuppusamy’s yearly school fess of Rs.500 for this academic year and Kuppusamy has agreed to update us with his exam results and his future plans.

Vijayanathan

•  Vijayananthan is a hardworking student, studying 10th std in the Govt. Hr. Sec School, Omalur. He comes from a financially challenged family background.
•  Vijayananthan has no father, and his mom Mrs.Thangammal and brother Mr.Ravi are daily wage labourers, making Rs.4000 per month and struggling to make ends meet.
•  Apart from his schooling, Vijayanathan works in a local farm in the weekends to support his familys financial needs.
•  Mrs.Vijaya Pugalenthi, the headmistress of the school and mother of eLIGHT member, Premkumar provided us with the necessary details and helped us with the background verification.
•  eLIGHT paid Vijayananth’s yearly school fess of Rs.200 for this academic year and Vijayananthan has agreed to update us with his board results and his future plans.

Vaishnavi & Sowmiya

Monahan Girls Higher Secondary School, Chennai

•  Vaishnavi and Sowmiya are studying in 6th and 8th std in CSI MONAHAN MAT. HIGH. SEC. school in Royapettah, Chennai.
•  Their father (an auto driver) is a drunkard who constantly quarrels with his wife. His stay in the house is sporadic and so is his financial contribution to the household. Their mother, Mrs. Deepa takes the entire responsibility. She is currently working as a helper in a Diabetic center making Rs.160/- per day (temporary job) •  With this small income, she is struggling to support the children’s education and has been unable to pay their school fee for the last two years.
•  The principal of the CSI Monahan School, Mrs. Kitty Paulraj, approached eLIGHT, requesting us to help Deepa. •  eLIGHT members visited Deepa and the children in their home and after verifying the background and confirming with the principal, eLIGHT agreed to pay Vaishnavi and Sowmiya’s school fees for the current academic year.
•  The fee summed up to Rs.23,900. eLIGHT members paid the fee directly at the school counter in the presence of the principal, Mrs.Deepa and the children (photo provided)

•  Mrs. Ilamathy, a maid servant from Saidapet, Chennai approached eLIGHT to help her with her children’s education. Mrs. Ilamathy’s kids Subashini and Suresh are studying 1st and 3rd std in Chennai Primary School, Saidapet.
•  As there was no one at home to help the kids with their studies, their performance was dropping and Ilamathy has enrolled them in private tutions to help them perform well.
•  eLIGHT has agreed to pay their monthly tution fee of Rs.250/-

R. Prabhakaran

Anjuham Higher Secondary School, Chennai

•  Mrs. Saraswathi, a maid servant from Ashok Nagar, sought eLIGHT’s support to pay her son Prabhakaran’s (studying in 11th std at Anjugam Higher Secondary school, Chennai) school fee.
•  After Mrs. Saraswathy’s husband’s (T.Rajendran) sudden demise in August, 2010, she has been struggling to meet her son’s educational and the family’s day to day living expenses with her monthly income of Rs.3000/-
•  eLIGHT paid Prabhakaran’s yearly school fee of Rs.3,980/ on July, 2012.

Atheeswarar Orphanage

Atheeswarar Charitable Trust

•  eLIGHT extended its support to the Atheeswarar Orphanage, Mudichur, Chennai. Mr.Srikanth, who ran this orphanage was a truck driver and was struggling to meet the food, clothing, shelter and educational requirements of the 47 children living in the orphanage.
•  eLIGHT paid the yearly school fees for 21 students ( from 6th std to 12th std) studying at the Govt. Hr. Sec. School, Perungalathur amounting to Rs.2,250/- .
NOTE: The initial fund allocated for this particular event was Rs.15,000/- But we have not heard from the orphanage about the primary students’ school fee, inspite of us making frequent calls. So we move ahead to our next event, assuming they had received funds from other sources.
